Forensics

What is Forensics?

Forensics is an academic contest of skill in speaking, acting, storytelling and interpretation. The Metro Middle School Forensic League competes four times a year for the prizes of first, second, third, and fourth place in each event and for team trophies for outstanding schools. Of course, it is exciting to win these medals, but DuPont Hadley emphasizes team effort and doing our personal best.

A student improves skills and cultivates his/her talent through performing again and again. Medals come with experience. You learn to speak in public, think on your feet, and interpret literature. The skills gained from participating in Forensics prepare you for high school and college. And it’s fun!

What’s Involved

Students in 5th-8th grade can participate in Forensics. Forensics meets weekly after school to rehearse from 3:45p.m. – 4:45p.m. At that time, pieces are “blocked” and “worked.” This means the director or coach gives directions in how to speak, move, and act. An attitude of concentration and cooperation is a must!

We have fun but we work hard. Last year’s winners in their categories also practiced their pieces at home. Practice makes perfect! Metro competitions are held after school from 4-6 at area host schools. Parents are welcomed at events and must be willing to provide or arrange transportation.
